London story part two

London is in a lot of places a lot of the time
a lot of creatives want london in their rhymes
and in order to do that they need to put london in their mind
though one city can never fit in one head,
and London never gives us what we expect
especially when certain pieces don't seem to join together
leaving a lot to overload and rest on their shoulders
get to sharing the same view as london elders
who now have london stuck in their joints
so they can't move their positions or points
believe they where promised a promise land
but said promises slipped through their hands
and now tell their children there's no love in london
don't put it in your heart, end up with concrete feet
stuck on the street unable to make a start
pavement will have you swallowed whole
left hollow so helpless the excuse is she can't help it nor manage
just arrived and barely knows the language
so she lives in a flat with an open front door:
poster on the wall announcing 'spanish on the second floor'
come up to feel mannish, tells them she's nineteen but is really twenty four
gets a lot of punters, becomes popular and after a couple of months
builds up a list of regulars, i guess there's something about her,
a certain je ne sai quoi that doesn't come from the others,
who knows, maybe it's because she treats the customers like lovers-
and you never get that from where her flat stems
because the west end lights are only bright
as behind them they hide a soho gone rotten
it's the place you go to become forgotten,
resulting in a decadence of dead ends
times passed and she's settled in
her existence a definition of her residence
a place you go to, not come from, take from, not give to
time spent watching bones thin, in one year she's aged ten
and that glimmer of what you thought was her
you'd think no longer resides from within
never to be awakened again.
Until a man from her old life walks in.
her welcoming smile is killed by his shocked stare
through his view she sees her
and can't believe she's there.
when you've spent a lot of time in repetition
and you're represented with a new situation
the words you want can often go missing
going through the prices she silences and faces
the wall to stop herself from breaking down altogether
the image of them together is sharper than
a bucket of ice cold water
they came to london on a bus ride from dover
his name is jetmir, from albania, a boxer

they both came to london on a coach ride from dover

couldn't have said more than five words to each other
but she always felt his eye on her, a sort of protecter
who had a stone face she was determined to break
in the lunchtimes of language classes they took together
she'd invite him to join in from the corner
teasing him because all he ever ate was the pasta
a strict diet for a man determined to be a great boxer
but looking at him now he's missing a finger
what immigrant here hasn't been put through the ringer?
She keeps quiet, maybe he heard about her, here
and he came to see her, she'd
have her very own knight in shinning armour, but
all that comes out of his mouth is nervous laughter
and on that laugh she can smell that he's drunk
foolish to think anything other- just london dumb luck
a familiar face in a space of a hundred faceless men,
then he moves close- gives her a hug and doesn't let go.
she draws a sharp breath feeling the rain from his coat
he leaves not before rambling words in a language she doesn't know
followed by "i never stopped loving you"
but the affect had her froze in
the situation she's awoken
another customer knocks on the door but she wont let it open
she needs to get out she needs to be alone
sometimes it's not about being able to climb
but find the ropes, and in that night, a cycle broke.
Jetmir walks out. And she's still still. Still.
A weird morality takes over,
not even the addiction can hold her
-still took a bag from her draw-
too-thin leather coat over the shoulder
and walked. Out of a night-time soho
when she first came to the west end she was filled with such hope
past oxford circus past the west end.
Can't sleep, too high, still needs a rest.
she lays her head on the tottenham court road station steps.
not knowing, but no longer afraid to ask,
"what next?"
being a londoner
I hope it'll be the last thing she expects.
Because this city rests on a countless amount of broken necks
so no matter how hard
i will pay my respects
and put london in my heart
because although our protagonist isn't there anymore
it doesn't mean they didn't put another spanish up on that second floor.

affair.

I never listened enough to my mum
she would always say i was headed for big things
something like a, phenomenon,
i never knew where it came from
as i was always, not, well behaved and-
figured, you could make a man from clay
open his eyes to see a new day
create ears to hear all wisdom
give him a happy home to come from
but given the choice he still wont stay
never do never will,
held hearts always hold out for a cheap thrill
started as daily visits while he was at work
turned into walks through the park,
swalling a bitter pill when they where together
she wanted a nurturer, it's not romantic
but i tried to help her, and that urge to kill
went to her other, other-
felt my lovers future fall through broken hands
and the enemies blood in my mouth
the enemy is myself spat out i look up
see the man she never wanted to make angry
i knew he would, but i never knew it'd be..
i guess her bruises never came from affection
leaving me the man who's help only hurt
destined to become a crippled contradiction
we lived a dream that's a little too non- fiction.
no dream has ever been all it seems,
now I'm bursting at the seams,
depending on what way his fists lean
teeth are seen and feel mine are gone
and i wonder how long this pain will carry on
if i my arms get their act together and no longer be so weak
i can pick myself up from the street
but his feet on my back put a stop to that
people from the pub now come out
i wonder if what i did was really so wrong,
i was the man she could depend on
then again it was their bed we slept on.
these street lights are so orange i see all in sepia
i dedicate my last thought to my mother,
and am sorry to have disappointed her.

Facebook status

NAPA IN SEVEN DAYS
She shouts to her friends as she straightens her hair
NAPA IN SIX DAYS
She makes a point to look like she cares
NAPA IN FIVE DAYS
Tight skirt high heels sparkling lip gloss
NAPA IN FOUR DAYS
Got in free ‘cos she knows the club boss
NAPA IN THREE DAYS
You’d think she was hollow
NAPA IN TWO DAYS
That mask of make-up hides her sorrow
NAPA TOMORROW
She travels from a tragedy long ago.
NAPA IS NOW
NAPA IS HERE
SAVE ENOUGH MONEY
SO SHE CAN GO NEXT YEAR!

What she'll say to him.

I tip-toed up and that connection-
grabbing my hips, closer
never with another
have I felt so together
so when we released
I opened my eyes
Blinked twice
Couldn’t believe that I was here
With you
Couldn’t believe that it turns out
This is all I’ve ever wanted
Couldn’t believe I could ever be
Surprised again
And I said
“Okay, this is it now
I, like this status quo
I got you, you got me
From here on in, know
Without you, I refuse
To see tomorrow”
His eyes stretch open wide, where he had planned for years to find the right words she replied with something that, well, blew him away and that made him glad, because as each second passed both were beginning to understand this night was a time for things that are new. To tread down one less cloudy path. She leans in, her neck beautifully stretching out, her eyes closing but instead of a kiss he grabs her hugs her. Then holds her. Harder. But she holds on just as tight. After a good thirty seconds they relent., looking back at each other. It’s so serious neither of them can’t help but laugh. It's all so deep, it's all so daft. It's used to be so unexpected, until it happened.
The end.

Winter months.

Come to north London
Where we observe two lovers
Who are unable to carry on.
Come closer, into Tufnell park
As they get together and later depart,
Every winter they play the same part.

She be- strong and vibrant but can’t
Help but become burnt out when the clouds
Become swollen and orange bricks
Are no longer golden despair doth knock
To him she must flock, runs
Hoping he’s still there, he still cares

He fucks the summer away just to forget
the day her and he crossed paths and never
does his amnesia last, going without her
becomes the longest fast, so he waits
for the snowflakes to fall hoping when
Frost comes she, like he, can no longer stand tall

One way or another their paths cross in winter
When neither have nothing to lose and to their
Inner most desires they surrender confessing
Things they really shouldn’t but believing in
This love means believing in living and when
They’re together living finally feels better

“please don’t let these days end, we’ve messed up
and I don’t want to mess up again, you’re my lover
you’re also my best friend only on you can I depend,
now it’s so cold out- trust- with me it’s warm
don’t leave me this time stay in from the storm”

“as sure as I breathe I believe I will never
leave for you are my rock my soul you keep me strong
and like likewise only you can I depend on don’t worry
my dear you have nothing to fear I’ll keep from the cold
and rest in these arms until I leave this world”

the love made in stone feels so heartfelt
but while the snow melts the promises break
the stone becomes weathered and partners weary
can’t help but believe the world circle theory if
only they admitted their partners faults, so desperate
to see perfection, so shocked when they see a person.

She witnesses the cloudy sky die at the hands
Of spring but doesn’t understand why he
Wants to stay in when there is such a wide
World to explore constantly told she is adored
But honestly feels trapped and bored this isn’t
What livings for- was she blinded by love before?

He knows winter has faded and is scared that
The love is fated to end bitter like last year
So scared he’s trying to keep her near but every
Time he pulls she pushes harder doesn’t understand
What she’s being distant for after all he’s the rock
the soul- is there anymore he can do for her?

The quiet grumblings bubble over while the
Sky gets hotter the flowers do bloom but not any
Larger than the impending sense of doom that follows
The two something is up something is awry then one
Night after a drunken party the expletives fly
And to the winter romance we say goodbye.

“You’re giving me actions but no feelings, reasons or why’s
And when you tell me love me it feels like a lie.
It’s as if you’re keeping secrets, made me so broke up inside
Yesterday I snuck on your facebook, and fucking cried for turning
Into one of those guys, you’ve robbed me of my pride”

“you fool you fucking fool I love you so much yet you don’t
stop accusing and thinking im just using I can’t keep on
guaranteeing love I can’t keep on promising if you do not believe,
im so trapped here you’re so on-me-all-the-time I need to…
I need to go”

The words come out of nowhere hitting the two harder
than, unless you’ve been in love, could never know.
The two depart leaving half a heart, only able to love
half as much, both become- no in fact both succumb to
an un-feeling of being numb, when with new lovers they’re
not loved nor lonesome just trapped under a summer sun

September if anything is a time for change when
Summer wanes and we embrace a baptism of rain-
She’s soaked in it as the clouds came from nowhere
In a short skirt she’s embarrassed and cold feeling
Too old to make such a mistake then she hears the
Pitter-patter over her, she’s standing under whose umbrella?

Septembers clouds are London’s cover a grey duvet
Rolling over her, soaked wet knowing if he
Helps he’ll regret it but fuck it she’s soaked and
We must help others and well she’s still looking
Good as ever he stands over, she turns to see her
Old lover he feels the way she looks. She looks in wonder.

They get together and later depart,
Every winter they play the same part.
Though maybe this time, in September-
A time for change- they can try for a fresh
Start, able to rearrange their broken hearts
and see if instead, a friendship can last.

“how you been?”                                 “I’ve been okay”
“still living round here?”                   “no I moved”
“Really”                                                “yeah but just to archway”
                                                               “you’re soaking wet”
“yeah I realise that.”                          "you want, a hot drink or something?"

Short skirt blues.

I've climbed the highest mountain
I've swum in every river
but when i see you in that short skirt girl,
I can't help but shiver

I got the short skirt blues, oh lord
I got the short skirt blues
I see you in that short skirt girl
and there ain't nothin' that i can do

I've slept a thousand nights
dreamin' of you by my side
only you in that short skirt girl
could make me satisfied

I got the short skirt blues, oh lord
I got the short skirt blues
i see you in that short skirt girl
and there ain't nothin i can do

I don't think you understand
no one can love you like i can
now come on you short skirt baby
let me be your man

I got the short skirt blues, oh lord
I got the short skirt blues
I got the short skirt blues
and there aint' nothin' I can do

girl it's so small and tight
makes a man feel just right
so come on short skirt honey
love me one more night

I got the short skirt blues, oh lord
I got the short skirt blues
I got the short skirt blues
and there aint' nothin' that I can do

You know that short skirt drives me crazy
makes my head spin, round and round
you know I'd love your short skirt
even more if it was on the ground.

I got the short skirt blues, oh lord
I got the short skirt blues
I got the short skirt blues
because there aint' nothin' that I can do

What he'll say to her.

As I stared into the ocean
blue eyes of you I sensed
quiet, grass swaying
but no others moving-
an absence of people- Stillness.
So, I looked to my feet
and I looked to you
and made my promise
"All these stars
bear witness:
from here on in,
loving you, loving you
will be my business
and i shall make a fortune
a fortune in these hugs
and in these kisses.
These golden glowing green-olive
kisses."

He forgets what he says as soon as he says it but knows every word is true. While stepping closer, he moves the hair away from her face and it rests on the top of her ear. His hand slowly pulls back, stroking her cheek. Her eyes do not blink but slowly close as she tip. Toes. Up.

Lonesome road.

I used to be the man she was needing
'till she bit the hand from which she was feeding
now I'm being strong
I'm leaving
but it wont be long
because i've been walking along
this lonesome road too long

I was just a stranger
before i met her
another weary traveller
in a lonesome bar
drinking alone
too scared to go home
because home was just too far

Such cold nights
hurt the weakest the most
for there where no eyes
in the london sky
so if I didn't make it back
not even the stars
could watch me die
I would feel so hollow
and I'd wonder why, asking
"where did the man inside me go?"
Perhaps i left him in the ring
knocked cold from that killer blow

She used to look at me
like I was the only thing
She needed to see
now if they ever truly connect
all I'll get is boredom and dread
as if what i will say
could ruin what's left
and it's true
if i start talking
I don't know what will come out next
so we're trapped in a stalemate
bound together from fear
of loneliness

But I loved her and I gave her all i had to give
now i've got nothing else within
I'm withered and thin
weathered and old
to think i once stayed in
from the cold
For loving her is like
walking on the sun
you know i think it just
can't be done
from the sorrow i try to run
but I'm tethered to her
on a rope made of history
there is no doubt
she'll be the death of me
I will O.D. on misery.

I used to be the man she was needing
'till she bit the hand from which she was feeding
now the dream does pour
Like the whiskey I'm drinking
the glass feels good
within my haggard paws
to hold me again
I wish you would
to die my friend
I wish I could.
